Sparkling

Inspired by the power of low strings and folk-like woodwind solos, British composer Anna Clyne's style for This Midnight Hour is cinematic and thrilling. This is followed by the graceful figures, cascading arpeggios and glissandi of Reinhold Glière's Harp Concerto, one of his most frequently performed romantic works in the repertoire. It perfectly showcases the virtuosity of Xavier de Maistre, a fine musician who in 1998 won^1st prize at the Bloomington Competition in the USA, before becoming principal harpist of the Vienna Philharmonic at the age of 22. The musical direction has been entrusted to conductor Karen Kamensek, a benchmark interpreter of contemporary music and Philip Glass in particular, but also experienced in all repertoires in her various posts in Vienna, Freiburg and Hamburg. Her vision of Sibelius' Symphonyn°5 will magnify the vast natural spaces of Finland.
