Paris - New York or New York - Paris... it's hard to say which of these two cities has had the greatest influence on the art world over the last century and a half. From impressionism to jazz, avant-garde to minimalism, this evening will be a veritable firework display of styles and colors. Yesterday's masters, Ravel and Gershwin, will rub shoulders with the new generation of Jessie Montgomery and Samuel Strouk for a program reflecting both the friendship and the rivalry between these two cities as singular as they are emblematic. Simon Ghraichy, pianist extraordinaire, will act as master of ceremonies, bringing flamboyance and imagination to two major works of the repertoire, Ravel's Concerto in G and Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue. As for today's young composers, their music follows in the footsteps of their peers, between American driving energy and Parisian gouaille. All under the baton of cosmopolitan conductor Joshua Tan, who will embody the artistic and cultural ebullience of this program.
