In this program, conductor Pieter-Jelle de Boer weaves a fascinating musical path. Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach's relatively little-known Symphony in D major is a dazzling work, a harbinger of Romanticism.
In 1791, the last year of his life, Mozart delivered a major piece of music history. How can we resist the Clarinet Concerto, with its slow movement that opens the doors to infinity, especially when it is carried by clarinettist Shirley Brill.
In addition to Schubert's Symphony No. 5, a marvel of elegance, transparency and grace, the program also includes a fabulous contemporary work. Winner of the prestigious Pulitzer Prize in 2013, Caroline Shaw's Entr'acte is one of the "hits" of our time, as the young American composer reinvents a Haydn quartet with irresistible seduction.
