As May draws to a close, enjoy a springtime program.
Lili Boulanger, the first woman to win the Grand Prix de Rome in 1913, shows with D'un matin de printempsas in her entire body of work, she displayed an abundance of creativity, with a precocity comparable to that of Arthur Rimbaud or Raymond Radiguet. She was cut down in her prime, at the age of 25. It was in the spring of 1853 that Robert Schumann heard the virtuoso Joseph Joachim, who inspired him to write his Violin Concerto. A few months later, he met the young Johannes Brahms, and tried to convince his protégé to compose his first symphony, which was to blossom over a long (twenty years) but splendid period.
