Steve Reich, guest of this year's Festival Présences, reserves the premiere of his latest creation for the EIC and Radio France. Jacob's Ladder returns to the composer's spiritual aspirations, those of Tehilim andAbraham's Cave. Based on the biblical text, he offers a musical exegesis, highlighting symbolism and polysemy. Premiered in 2019, Reich/Richter is in a secular vein. The fruit of a meeting between the composer and visual artist Gerhard Richter, the work combines the sliding musical structures of the former with the Patterns of the latter. This concert will also be an opportunity to discover two new voices, those of Franco-British composers Josephine Stephenson and Héloïse Werner.
