STEVE REICH, The Desert Music
Thirty or so voices, not far from a hundred musicians, the great family of marimbas, maracas, xylophones and gongs, and then that inimitable pulse: The Desert Music is an ode to the deserts of Sinai, Judea and New Mexico, built on poems by Williams Carlos Williams that fascinated Steve Reich when he was a teenager. Two new works, commissioned by Radio France and performed by the Chœur, the Philhar and pianist Alice Sara Ott, are also included.
