Bohemian-born Bohuslav Martinu composed his iconoclastic Revue de cuisine in 1927. At the time, he was living in Montmartre and leading a bohemian life! A truculent love story between a saucepan and its lid, La Revue de cuisine evokes the sound of the small jazz ensembles fashionable at the time. Leoš Janáček's music also evokes a certain pastoral freshness. Each movement of his Concertino for piano and winds depicts amusing scenes from nature. Works for trumpet and piano by Miroslav Srnka and Nina Šenk, meanwhile, offer a view tinged with strangeness and melancholy poetry.
