Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, Symphony No. 6 "Pathétique
A contemporary of Shostakovich, Lūcija Garūta honed her skills in France in the second half of the twenties, before becoming the leader of Latvian music. Her highly virtuosic concerto is a voyage of initiation crowned by a passionate cadenza.
The ultimate confession of a composer who had always been plagued by existential malaise, and who disappeared just a few days after its premiere. Pathétique" Symphony is made up of four painful episodes ending in despair and nothingness. A drama that leaves performers and listeners speechless.
