Programme

Sofia AVRAMIDOU, Alice and the Mirror
With libretto by Mélanie Le Moine, after Lewis Carroll's Through the Looking Glass
World premiere
Commissioned by Ensemble intercontemporain and GRAME

The character of Alice and her famous adventures in Wonderland have been on the mind of Greek composer Sofia Avramidou for some time now - no doubt, as for many, since her first childhood readings. A number of pieces in her catalog bear witness to this: Keep digging the hare hole, An Absurd Reasoning... With librettist Mélanie Le Moine and director Aurélie Hubeau, she draws inspiration from the second part of Lewis Carroll's young heroine's tribulations, De l'autre côté du miroir, in a musical with puppets designed by students at the École nationale supérieure des arts de la marionnette in Charleville-Mézières. Childhood imagination and nonsense are at the heart of this enchanting experience!
