Grażyna Bacewicz, Concerto for String Orchestra
Witold Lutosławski, Chain 2, dialogue for violin and orchestra
Richard Strauss, Thus Spake Zarathustra Op. 30
A fine opener with the Concerto for String Orchestra by Grażyna Bacewicz, considered by Witold Lutosławski, to be one of the greatest female composers of all time. Then you'll discover Chain 2, another concerto but "in miniature" by the same Lutosławski, premiered in 1986 by Paul Sacher's Collegium Musicum and German violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter. The soloist in this work will be Dorota Anderszewska, supersolo violin soloist with the Orchestre national Montpellier Occitanie since 2004. The program culminates in Richard Strauss's symphonic poem Thus Spake Zarathustra, expressing the hero's powerlessness to find answers to his questions through religion, science or even his sense of humor in the face of Mother Nature's enigma!
